Show Notes

Hey there fellow nerds and geeks!

Aaron Nabus here and thanks for tuning into the Hall H Show!

My co-host Alex Benedicto and I recently caught up with Zack Kaplan at Long Beach Comic Con 2017. Zack is the writer and creator of the comic book “Eclipse,” which is published by Top Cow.

Growing up in north Florida, Zack was into video games like Zelda and loved watching Star Trek The Next Generation.

He was creative even at an early age, making stop animation movies with his He-Man action figures.

While he started out as an actor and studied theatre and was more interested in being in front of the camera, he eventually realized that he would rather be do things behind the camera.

After making his way to Los Angeles and while studying film at USC, Zack worked a few odd jobs before finding success with his comic book , Eclipse.

Past odd jobs included working as an agent’s assistant, doing cater waiting, teaching film and TV writing, and also working as a poker dealer.

In fact the inspiration for Eclipse came during numerous trips back home at sunrise after a long night of either dealing…or playing cards.

I enjoyed reading Eclipse, a dystopian story of a society living underground during the day, due to a catastrophic solar event. Add a killer on the loose, killing people with sunlight and you have the makings of not only an interesting comic book, but also a movie or even a TV series…oh wait I guess you’ll have to listen to the rest of the podcast for that.

He also gives great advice for aspiring creators and he even gives us a preview of his new comic book called “Port of Earth” which is coming out in November 2017.

We hope you enjoy our Hall H Show podcast conversation with Zack Kaplan and if you are going to New York Comic Con 2017 he will be at Artist Alley M10!

He will also be appearing at Los Angeles Comic Con, so please go check him out!
