The Hall H Show podcast talked with comic book historian, illustrator and graphic designer, Arlen Schumer at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. This episode is also available on Google Play, iTunesStitcher, iHeart Radio and Spotify. The Hall H Show podcast is hosted by Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto.

Show Notes:

Welcome back to the Hall H Show! I’m your host, Aaron Nabus. On the last episode, episode 56, we learned a bit about Arlen Schumer, comic book historian, author, illustrator and graphic designer from my interview with him that was recorded at Palm Springs Comic-Con 2017.

On this episode, recorded at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, we learn more about his three pop culture “children.”

Bruce Springsteen, The Twilight Zone and the Silver Age of Comic Books.

We also talked about his argument of the racism concerning Black Panther‘s mask, auter theory of comics as it pertains to Jack Kirby and other artists like Steve Ditko who should have their rightful creative credit attributed to them, self sacrifice and what it is to be a man.

This is one powerful and moving podcast as Arlen got real and vulnerable with me just like his idol, Bruce Springsteen was with him…and I love him for it.

I’ll always remember this day since not only did we do a two and half hour podcast, where he schooled me on comics and pop culture, but we spent another couple of hours at dinner afterward were he continued to school me and give me guidance on how to get to the next level personally and professionally.

There won’t be my typical closing at then end of this episode…so please follow Arlen at ArlenSchumer.com, PopCultureman.com and check out the video of his VisuaLecture, “The Origins of Jack Kirby’s Black Panther” below or on our Arlen Schumer playlist on our YouTube channel.

Peace, Cheers and please experience Arlen’s brilliance for yourself if you happen to come across one of his VisuaLectures at a convention you go to.

And…thank you Arlen for your brotherhood.

Oh, if anyone knows a good agent for the best pop culture and comic book historian in the business, please let us know! ~Aaron

If you will be at San Diego Comic Fest 2019, which takes place March 7–10, you won’t want to miss Arlen’s four VisuaLectures covering:

  • The 50th Anniversary of Jim Steranko’s Captain America
  • Steve Ditko
