Steven Prince comes on Episode 103 of the Hall H Show to talk about his comic book, Monster Matador: Tango of the Matadors and so much more! This episode is also available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, iHeart Radio and Spotify. The Hall H Show is hosted by Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto and is the “Voice of Independent Creators.”
Show Notes:
Hey fellow nerds, geeks and fans of indie pop culture creators! Aaron Nabus here and welcome to the Hall H Show!
On this episode, we welcome back the mastermind behind Monster Matador, Steven Prince!
We last had him on episode 64, which was recorded at WonderCon 2019 and also featured his good pal, Rylend Grant.
Monster Matador just recently started a Kickstarter campaign for the third and final issue of the Monster Matador: Tango of the Matadors arc (which end on May 5th, 2021)!
Welcome back to the show, Steven! ~Aaron
Opening Round Questions:
- A lot has happened since the last time we had you on the Hall H Show at WonderCon 2019… no giant monsters have added to our plight. Though…the last time we had you on, you did say the monsters in your book are metaphors for Republicans. How have you been?
- How long ago did the idea of Monster Matador pop into your head? What made you decide…I have to create this! Also…could you also please touch on the importance of Jim Higgins’ class at Meltdown Comics?
Thunder Round Questions:
- Who is your favorite of the three stooges?
- How is the Covid Hair?
- You used to be in the toy industry. Do you have a toy collection? If so…what are some of your favorites in your collection?
- I’m not saying that you’re a Republican, but if you were a monster in the Monster Matador universe, what kind of monster would you be?
- If you had the ability to time travel, who is someone that you would want to have a conversation with?
- What’s one thing you hated as a child but love as an adult?
- The last time we had you on, you said you were an improvisational writer. How do you stay organized.
- What kind of music would you listen to on a long road trip?
- You’re a seasoned comic book creator now, any advice for someone who is thinking about creating their first comic book?
Monster Matador: Tango of the Matadors
The epic conclusion – A matador will fall! Issue #3, plus catch-up on the first 2 issues!
From the Kickstarter page: Monster Matador is a delightfully demented Kaiju throw-down that follows Matador Ramon Alejandro Estévez Guerrero as he travels a post-apolcalyptic future to fight monsters and and make a better world for his daughter.
Monster Matador: Tango of the Matadors #3 wraps up the acclaimed mini-series with a 31 page action-packed issue printed on glossy paper between a cardstock cover.
Matador has for years been my absolute favorite comic out there. It plays like Danny McBride and Jody Hill made a Santo movie and then gleefully peed on it. It’s completely and utterly bonkers, so goddamn smart and funny. I honestly can’t recommend it enough.
Rylend Grant (Aberrant, Banjax, The Jump, The Peacekeepers)
An off-the-wall, over-the-top, and totally insane monster mashup. Take the kaiju by the horns and order Monster Matador today.
David Pepose (Spencer & Locke, Going to the Chapel, The O.Z., Scout’s Honor)
