Show Notes:

Joining Hall H Show host, Aaron Nabus, for the first episode of 2025, is a good friend of the podcast, the creator and writer of the comic book, ©alifornia, Inc., Arthur N. Ebuen!

He returns to give an amazing conversation that’s full of insight as a creator (from his standpoint as a marketer and comic book creator) and also to discuss the fourth and final issue of the current arc of ©alifornia, Inc. – which is currently on Kickstarter until February 13 2025.

If you ever wondered, “What if California became its own corporate nation?” then you’ll definitely want to pick up this book!

Welcome back to the show, Arthur!

Comic Book and Kickstarter Questions:

  • Now that issue 4 of ©alifornia, Inc. is finished and is now on Kickstarter, how are you feeling about the whole experience?
  • For someone who is hearing about it for the first time, how would you describe the comic book to them?
  • After reading the end of issue 4, you left it in a good spot for a conclusion of the current arc. But…I can see the story continuing in the future. Was that sort of ending deliberate?
  • Are there any features of the current Kickstarter that you’d like to highlight?

Thunder Round Questions:

  • What is the first thing that you think of when you wake up in the morning?
  • If you owned a restaurant, describe what the cuisine would be like.
  • You recently watched the classic anime, Akira with your son. Can you please tell us what that experience was like? What else have you been watching that has made an impact on you?
  • You’ve been drawing a lot lately…what’s going on?
  • When you look back at 2024, what were some of your accomplishments that you were proud of?
  • You are one of the most positive people that I know have you always been like that?
  • In episode 125 of our podcast (back in September of 2023), I loved getting to know about your creative journey – from aspiring animator, to getting an Emmy on the Simpsons, to transitioning to Graphic Design, advertising, and photography, then picking up a new skills by writing, producing and directing social change videos…and now also a comic book creator and writer, what’s next on your creative horizon…a full length movie? A novel?
  • In our last conversation, you were also very candid about your struggles and feelings of being inadequate as an animator. Though…ultimately, you didn’t let that get you down and you were able to find success in the advertising world. What’s the reason for your resiliency?
  • When you helped me produce the inaugural FilAm CreatorCon, I was really impressed with your organizational skills. Is this something that can be learned or is it more of an innate ability?
  • How do you stay passionate about creating? Is your motivation different for comics versus your social change videos?
  • If you had remained in Boston and never came back to San Diego, how different would your life have been?
  • What would the title of your biography be?

Did We Miss Anything?:

  • Is there anything else about ©alifornia, Inc. that you’d like our audience to know about?
  • What conventions will you be attending this year?

Parting Words of Advice:

  • How important is networking as a creative?
