The Hall H Show podcast welcomes tattoo artist and owner of Black Water Tattoo Club, South Bay Mike! This episode is also available on Google Play, iTunes, Stitcher and Spotify. The Hall H Show podcast is hosted by Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto.
Aaron Nabus here and thanks for tuning into the Hall H Show podcast – especially this powerful and insightful episode.
One thing I love about this podcast is that we have been able to provide a voice for many different and interesting pop culture and comic book creators – from all walks of life and who have had varying life experiences that have helped to shape the artist…and ultimately the person they have become.
Perhaps our most personal interview to date, our next guest for episode 38 features an old friend from elementary school who is the epitome of resiliency and authenticity.
Mike Kellerman is a tattoo artist and owner of the Blackwater Tattoo Club, located in Chula Vista, CA. “South Bay Mike,” as he is more widely known around South San Diego and around the world like in Japan and South Korea for instance, is also a survivor of cancer from secondhand smoke, first diagnosed at age 5, crystal meth addiction and homelessness.
I appreciate Mike coming on the show and being vulnerable, showing us that the reason why he has such a sterling reputation isn’t only because of his outstanding tattooing skills, but because he tries to be the best version of himself…and encourages you to do the same.
Please enjoy my conversation with South Bay Mike as he shares his struggles at a young age, his memories touring with P.O.D., his experiences as a business owner, his passion for art and tattooing and most importantly, his calling to be a better servant for others in need.
He even shares some Korean that he picked up while he was tattooing in South Korea!

Thank YOU for listening to the Hall H Show podcast! Our mission is to put the Hall H spotlight on some of our favorite pop culture and comic book artists, writers and other creatives especially ones that have an inspirational story to share…like tattoo artist, South Bay Mike. I look forward to connecting with him again…especially at Love Thy Neighbor events.

Peace…cheers and please make it a point to visit Artist Alley and Small Press at all the conventions you plan on going to this year. Also make sure to check out unique and interesting vendors, like our good friends at Hero Within! We love their awesome nerdy apparel!
